The Challenge

The Farmington Police Department located in New Mexico serves a population of over 45,000 residents. Farmington PD is an internationally accredited and progressive law enforcement agency committed to maintaining the highest standards of personal and organizational integrity while providing our community with a superior level of service. As the state of New Mexico continues to focus on improving de-escalation and use of force training, the department saw an opportunity to better prepare its officers with training equipment designed to improve decision-making in high-pressure situations.

The Solution

After significant research on the various options, the Farmington Police Department chose to include the Apex Officer judgmental use of force simulator and de-escalation training simulator as a major component of its training program. Farmington Police Department is leading the way in progressive police training policies in the state of New Mexico.

The Results

Farmington Police Chief Steve Hebbe told The Daily Times officers can cycle through multiple training scenarios in VR and get back on the streets quicker than if the department prepared and staged a training event at an off-site location. Both Chief Steve Hebbe and Capt. Kyle Dowdy both liked how the training provided an environment to work on de-escalation training by not just focusing on using lethal options.
