The Challenge

Ingham County Sheriff's Office is the primary law enforcement agency responsible for providing policing and public safety services to the over 284,900 residents living and working in Ingham County. Ingham County Sheriff's Office is one of the largest of 83 law enforcement agencies in the State of Michigan. The Ingham County Sheriff's Office is nationally recognized as a leader in both law enforcement and corrections. As the primary law enforcement agency within this community, Ingham County Sheriff's Office was looking for a better way to train and prepare their officers for real-life de-escalation and use of force incidents.

The Solution

Ingham County Sheriff's Office tested and evaluated various law enforcement training simulators available, but none of the systems provided the training experience they were looking for. After significant research on the various options, the Ingham County Sheriff's Office chose to include the Apex Officer virtual reality training simulator as a major component of its training program.

The Results

The Ingham County Sheriff's Office Training Team sets the standard in Law Enforcement and Corrections training through Leadership, Innovation, and a Commitment to Excellence. This goal is achieved through nationally recognized instructors and training courses. The Apex Officer VR training system is being used with the intent to improve their deputies ability to generate voluntary compliance, utilize the tools of interpersonal and strategic communication, identify use of force options, reinforce de-escalation, leadership skills and critical decision making.
