The Challenge

Camden County Sheriff's Office is located in southeastern corner of Georgia. It is one of the original counties of Georgia, created February 5, 1777. It is the 11th largest county in the state of Georgia by area, and the 41st largest by population. CCSO is recognized as a leader in both law enforcement and corrections. As the primary law enforcement agency within this community, Camden County Sheriff's Office was looking for a better way to train and prepare their officers for real-life de-escalation and use of force incidents.

The Solution

Camden County Sheriff's Office tested and evaluated various law enforcement training simulators available, but none of the systems provided the training experience they were looking for. After significant research on the various options, the Camden County Sheriff's Office chose to include the Apex Officer virtual reality training simulator as a major component of its training program. “It can possibly lessen the opportunity for a fatal interaction, either for the law enforcement officer or the person they are engaging on the street,” explained Camden County Sheriff Jim Proctor.

The Results

The Camden County Sheriff's Office training staff sets the standard in Law Enforcement and Corrections training through Leadership, Innovation, and a Commitment to Excellence. The Apex Officer VR training system is being used with the intent to improve their deputies ability to generate voluntary compliance, utilize the tools of interpersonal and strategic communication, identify use of force options, reinforce de-escalation, leadership skills and critical decision making.
